This 5-shot model in .38 Special caliber was brought onto the market in 1990 and was then available in two barrel lengths: 51 mm (2 in) or 76 mm (3in). In 1993 the model with the 76 mm (3 in) barrel was discontinued. In the same year the model 940 was introduced which was the same revolver, but in 9 mm Para caliber. This type was once again withdrawn in 1999. In 1996 Smith & Wesson changed the caliber to .357 Magnum and the barrel length to 54 mm (2 1/8 in). The total length is 166 mm (6 9/16 in) and it weights 652 g (23 oz). This weapon has a stainless steel frame and cylinder. This type is also a double action only because of the concealed hammer. This revolver is still in production.
