The forerunner of all Smith & Wesson small caliber double-action revolvers is the 6-shot K-22 Outdoorsman from 1931. This blued revolver with a medium-sized K-frame was manufactured until and including 1940. I the 1941 Smith & Wesson had to increase the production capacity due to the Second World War requirements.
