This 6-shot weapon is manufactured with 102 mm (4 in), 165mm (6 ½ in) or 213 mm (8 ½ in) barrels. As of 1979, a 152 mm (6 in) barrel replaced the 165 mm (6 ½ in) barrel. This revolver has an adjustable rear sight, counter-bored cylinder chambers and a large walnut grip. This weapon was originally simply called the Model .44 Magnum, but was given the model number 29 in 1957. At its introductions in 1955, this weapon's model number started with the letter S, but was replaced in 1969 by the letter N. Over the years, the Model 29 has been manufactured in a number of special versions for a variety of clients. The most prominent are:
Model 29 Silhouette, a special long distance weapon with a 270 mm (10 5/8 in) barrel and an adjustable front sight for four different distances. This type was manufactured from 1983 until 1991
